The men’s volleyball team made their first ever appearance in the ECAC Tournament after being ousted in the first round of the NECVA Championships. The ECAC experience would end in Boston, MA as they fell to Newbury College, the host school. The Mavs had a good mix of youth and experience in 2008 as they played a very difficult schedule and ended the year with a (15-18) overall record and were (5-3) in NECVA Western Division play. The Mavs schedule was littered with Top 15 Division III teams and high end Division II squads. That level of competition should have a positive impact on the younger players as they head into next season. One of the best all around players in team history finished his career in 2008 as Drew Lewandowski (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) will leave Medaille as their best setter ever. Over his career he posted an astounding (4,283) assists which is (2,893) more than second place. Drew also finishes his career 1st in games played, 2nd in digs and blocks, 3rd in kill percentage, and 7th in service aces. Also having a great 2008 was sophomore, outside hitter, Ryan Metz (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale), who led the team with (444) kills in (106) games played. He also led the team with (35) service aces. The Mavs were road warriors in 2008 as they made several extended trips. They were in Boston twice, New Jersey, Florida, and Virginia. The Mavs will rely on their youth and experience in 2009 as they bring back a wealth of talent to go along with some high end recruits and transfer students that will be joining the Maverick family.
