Coach Mike MacDonald enters his fourth season as the head coach of the Mavericks. In the 2008-2009 season the Mavs made history as they won their first ever AMCC Regular Season and Tournament Championships and made the programs first NCAA Tournament appearance. The Mavs finished the year with a program best record of (21-7) overall and (14-4) AMCC mark. He was named the AMCC Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
He led the Canisius College (Division I) men’s basketball program for nine seasons, and reached the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) finals in the 2000-01 season. For his work that season, MacDonald was named the Basketball Coaches Association of New York Co-Coach of the Year. MacDonald has also coached the Western Region Open Squad in the Empire State Games for six seasons, leading his teams to three gold medals (1994, 1995, 1997), one silver medal (1996) and one bronze medal (1998).

Associate Head Coach Gabe Michael begins his fourth season with the men’s basketball program. Coach Michael returned to Buffalo, NY, his hometown, after a one year stay at Hiram College during the 2006 basketball season. Prior to working at Hiram he was the Head Freshmen coach and varsity assistant coach at Canisius High School, where he led the freshmen team to a 19-0 record and assisted coach Kyle Husband with a Manhattan Cup championship during the 2005 basketball season. Gabe graduated with a degree in entrepreneurship from Xavier University, where he volunteered as a men’s basketball manager from 2003 to 2004. During that time the Musketeers reached the schools first ever NCAA Tournament Elite 8 and won the Atlantic 10 Championship under Coach Thad Matta. On the court Gabe works primarily developing the Maverick’s big men. Off the court he is involved with: recruiting, fund raising, film exchange, scouting and he is the director of the highly successful Medaille College Summer Basketball Camp. Assistant Coach Sean Mahany enters his first season with the Medaille Men’s Varsity program after serving as the Junior Varsity Head Coach last season. A native of Fredonia, NY, Coach Mahany attended Niagara University earning a degree in Sports Management in 2006. While at Niagara, he was a 4-year basketball manager for the Purple Eagles, who during this time, participated in the NIT and NCAA tournament for the 1st time in 35 years. Mahany is currently enrolled at Medaille as a graduate student, working towards his Masters in Education. Mahany’s responsibilities with the Mavs will be film exchange, recruiting, scouting, overseeing academic achievement, as well as on the floor coaching duties. Sean currently lives in Buffalo. Assistant Coach Andrew Schrum will enter his first season on the Medaille staff. Schrum comes to Medaille after serving as an assistant coach at Hilbert College during the 2008-2009 season. His first coaching job was with the boys varsity basketball program at his alma mater, West Seneca West High School, during the 2007-08 season. He also has worked with the boys freshman program at Canisius High School. A familiar face in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC), Schrum played two seasons for conference rival, University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Schrum starred for the Panthers helping them reach the conference tournament in 2004 and again in 2005. He received a Bachelors degree in History from Buffalo State in 2007 and a Masters degree in Sport Administration in 2009. Coach Schrum will assist with all facets of the men’s program including recruiting, scouting, film exchange, practice and game-day coaching. Schrum resides in Buffalo.
