2008 Season Review

The Lady Maverick softball team reached unprecedented heights in 2008 as they won their first ever AMCC Regular Season Title. They would finish the year with a (21-17) overall record and a (16-2) mark in conference play. The (21) wins are the most for Medaille in one season. Despite falling in the AMCC Tournament the Lady Mavs received their first ever invitation to the ECAC Upstate Tournament. The successes of 2008 were achieved through stellar team play, however, there were several standout players for Medaille. Senior, catcher, Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark) was once again spectacular as she finished her career by obliterating the record books. She leaves Medaille holding all but one offensvie record. In 2008 she led the team with a (.430) batting average, (.810) slugging percentage, (.485) on base percentage, (39) runs batted in and (10) home runs. She was also (14 of 15) on stolen base attempts. She was named 1st Team All AMCC and 1st Team All Region as a result of her strong play. Fellow senior, Shannon Superczynski (Cheektowaga, NY/Villa Maria) also had a big year hitting (.411) and scoring a team best (40) runs. The biggest contributor for Medaille came from sophomore, pitcher, Amanda Westling (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) who finished with a (16-9) record and (2) saves in (28) appearances. She struck out (147) batters while only issuing a remarkable (25) walks in (163.1) innings. Westling was also named to All AMCC 1st Team. Along with the players that received All Conference accolades head coach, Robyn Ventura, was named as the AMCC Coach of the Year. The Lady Mavs will look to build upon their 2008 success as they aim for an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2009.
