WSOC Team 2009
2009 Review:  The Lady Mavs performed well under second year head coach Matt Andrews as they finished the 2009 campaign with a (10-9-2) overall record and a (7-2-1) AMCC mark.  The Lady Mavs made another appearance in the ECAC Upstate Tournament, advancing to the Championship game after beating Sage College in the semifinals.  They would drop a (3-1) decision to Brockport State in the championship game.  Senior Laura Freeman (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore West) dominated for Medaille as she led the conference in goal scoring with (19) and finishing with (38) points.  She was named First Team All Conference for the second straight year.  Joining Freeman on the All Conference sheet was junior Mary Smialek (Girard, PA/Girard) who was recognized on the Honorable Mention Team.  The Lady Mavs played the most difficult schedule in program history as they frontloaded their schedule in an attempt to prepare themselves for the rigors of conference play. That was a succes as they finished third in the AMCC standings before being upset in the opening round of the playoffs by Pitt-Bradford (1-0).  The Lady Mavs will lose four seniors but return a strong core of players that will help them in their quest for an AMCC title in 2010.

2009 Preview:  The Medaille College Women’s Soccer team and second-year head coach Matt Andrews head into the 2009 season looking  to continue the success it had in the 2008 season.  Having lost only three seniors from a team that went (7-2) in AMCC  play last year, they will look to continue their ascent up the AMCC standings.  The team will be led by first-team all-AMCC player Laura Freeman (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East).  The senior averaged nearly a goal a game in the 2008 campaign.  The defense will be anchored by senior Sarah Kaczmarek (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) who will be returning to a defense that was amongst the best in league.

With a majority of the starting eleven returning and a recruiting class that includes many highly touted freshmen and junior college transfers, including All-Region and All-American performers the Women’s soccer team is looking forward to another successful season.   They begin play against Fredonia State on September 1st at All-High Stadium where the women were undefeated last season.  Conference play begins on September 19th when Franciscan University comes to Buffalo.

2008 Review: First year head coach, Matt Andrews, took the Lady Mavs to their first ever appearance in the AMCC semifinals, and a second straight trip to the ECAC Upstate Tournament. The Lady Mavs continued their ascent in the AMCC as they finished regular season conference play with a (7-2) record; a one game improvement from the 2007 season, their overall record was a strong (12-9-1) mark.  Once again Medaille was led by junior, Danielle Radlich (Clarence, NY/Clarence) who continued her assault on the Medaille record book by extending her career best numbers in goals, assists, and points.  She now has (67) goals, (24) assists for a staggering (158) points.  In 2008 she netted a team best (20) goals and added (5) helpers for (45) points.  Junior, transfer, Laura Freeman (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East) provided a huge spark for the Lady Mavs as she buried (13) goals to go along with (8) assists for (34) points.  Both Dani Radlich and Freeman earned First Team All Conference honors for their stellar play.  In her senior season between the pipes, goalkeeper, Mattea Haessner (Moravia, NY/Moravia) posted five shutouts and put up a (1.73) goals against average. The Lady Mavs will look to 2009 with hopes of a conference title and a first ever trip to the NCAA Tournament, as they bring back a strong core of their 2008 team.
