Edholm_JohnCoach Edholm is a self- proclaimed sports “nut.”  The former semi-pro football player and infantry soldier who served a year in Vietnam has competed in and coached many different sports over the years. He has been an avid golfer for almost 40 years.

Professionally, Coach Edholm has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and an MBA.  He began his “corporate” career as a research chemist and eventually became president & CEO of the Pierce & Stevens Corporation.  He is now a business entrepreneur and began coaching at Medaille in the Fall of 2006 and is assisted by Marlene Davis.

Under Edholm and Davis, Medaille finished 8th in the Conference in 2006, followed by 2nd in 2007 and 3rd in 2008.  Coaches Edholm and Davis plan to carry 10 golfers in the future to facilitate increased competition and to allow for longer- term player development with the goal to win the AMCC Championship in the Fall of 2009.  Winning the Conference will earn Medaille a berth in NCAA Division III Championship held in the Spring.

Marlene Davis became the assistant golf coach for the Medaille Varsity Golf Team in the Fall of 2006.  She is a Class A, LPGA Teaching and Club Professional with a spirited passion for teaching and playing competitive golf.  She is a golf instructor at the Paddock Chevrolet Golf Dome and Brighton Driving Range in Tonawanda, NY.  With over 19 years of experience as a golf professional, she had dedicated herself to teaching the skills necessary to help students reach their highest potential, and was selected as one of 50 Top Teachers by Golf for Women magazine.

Marlene has learned from experience.   Her debut into tournament play started at age 9, and her love of tournament competition helped her become the leading scorer and only female member of her high school golf team, St. Mary’s, Lancaster.  In 2001 she was inducted into her high school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

As a top player for the University of South Florida (Tampa), Marlene won two Division I golf tournaments.  Following graduation, she became a regular competitor in professional tournaments, and won the LPGA Teaching & Club Professional National Championship, qualified for two U.S. Women’s Open Championships as well as the LPGA Championship.  She continues to pursue her love for competition in various LPGA T &CP championships and state opens.
