Reed_LAR7The Medaille College men’s basketball team continued its strong play as they got another AMCC road win hanging on for a (75-69) victory at Penn State-Altoona.  The Lions made a run in the second half turning a (37-31) halftime deficit into a (52-49) lead with (9:08) remaining in the game.  From that moment on the Mavs would dictate play, stretching their lead to as many as nine points on their way to victory.  The Mavs received a pair of (18) point performances from senior Keith Hack (Hopewell Junction, NY)  and Ron Malicki (Machias, NY/Pioneer) with Malicki knocking down six of his eight shots from the floor.  Junior guard Ricky Reed (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta)(pictured) was perfect from the floor on the days as he drained all five shots that he attempted en route to a (15) point, (4) rebound and (4) assist afternoon.  The Mavs improve to (17-1) overall and sit atop the AMCC standings at (12-1).  They will head to Hilbert College on Wednesday (1/27) for an AMCC showdown with the Hawks at 8:00pm

January 21, 2010 By: Mike Carbery Category: Men's Basketball, Winter Sports No Comments →

Maiarana_LAR1The Medaille College men’s basketball team used a dominating performance on the glass coupled with protecting the ball to roll past crosstown rival D’Youville College (76-60) this evening in the Sullivan Center.  The Mavs led throughout the contest but got a spirited effort from the Spartans before sealing the win.  The Mavs were aggressive on the glass outrebounding D’Youville (53-37) overall and (15-7) on the offensive boards.  It was another strong night for senior Keith Hack (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) as he scored a team high (20) points while pulling down a squad best (11) rebounds.  With his strong effort Keith moved into fifth place on the all time scoring list as he now has (1,044) for his career.  The Mavs received a burst of energy off the bench as sophomore Phil Maiarana (Kenmore, NY/St. Joe’s)(pictured) dished out a career high (6) assists while committing no turnovers, he came up with (2) steals and knocked down a critical three pointer when D’Youville had closed to within six points late in the first half.  Junior guard Ricky Reed (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) had a very efficient evening as he was (6 of 7) from the floor finishing with (13) points, he also hauled in (7) rebounds on the night.  With the victory Medaille continued their tremendous season as they improved to (16-1) overall and (11-1) in AMCC play.  The Mavs will head to Penn State-Altoona on Saturday (1/23) for a 3:00pm tipoff.

Hack Reaches 1,000 Point Plateau as Mavs Roll

January 16, 2010 By: Mike Carbery Category: Men's Basketball, Winter Sports No Comments →

Hack_LAR5
It wasn’t a matter of if, but a matter of when would senior forward Keith Hack (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay)(pictured) register his 1,000th career point.  He came into this afternoons matchup with Pitt-Greensburg needing just two points to become the sixth player in program history to reach that milestone.  The moment came with (16:43) remaining in the first half as he converted a layup off a pretty feed from senior Chris Moscato (Buffalo, NY/Canisius).  That bucket would give the Mavs a six point lead and they would go on to crush the Bobcats (83-62). January 14, 2010 By: Mike Carbery Category: Men's Basketball, Winter Sports No Comments →

Hack_LAR5
The Medaille College men’s basketball team saw their unblemished record take its first hit as a traditional three point play with (00:15) remaining on the clock would seal their fate as Pitt-Bradford defended their home court with a (68-65) upset of the nation’s 19th ranked team.  The Mavs entered the game with a program best record of (13-0) but some missed opportunities on a handful of easy buckets in the first half would put them in a precarious position as the clocked ticked away late in regulation.  (more…)
