The Mavericks didn’t just clinch their second straight trip to the AMCC tournament final, they made history .. again. With tonight’s (88-65) win over number (4) seed Frostburg State, Medaille (22-4, 16-4) won it’s (22nd) game of the season, topping their previous mark for wins in a season of (21) set by last years squad. Both teams came out of the locker room ready to play. Frostburg would take an early lead then forward Ron Malicki (Machias, NY / Pioneer) would provide a much needed spark off the bench and score (5) straight points leading the Mavs on an (11-2) run midway through the first half. Malicki would continually lift the Mavs when they needed it most, scoring a game high (20) points, grabbing 7 boards and going (10-13) at the free throw line. (more…)

Let the craziness begin! The AMCC Final Four fields have been solidified and the Mavericks are hoping that home court advantage will prevail as postseason play opens up on Friday. The top seeded Lady Mavs (23-2) will face #4 Penn State-Altoona (20-6) to open the festivities at 1:00pm on Friday (2/26). The second semifinal will pit #3 Frostburg State (19-7) against #7 Pitt-Bradford (10-16) who upset second seeded Pitt-Greensburg in the quarterfinals. That game will tip-off at 3:00pm. On the men’s side the #1 Mavs (21-4) will host #4 Frostburg State (17-8) at 6:00pm with #2 Pitt-Bradford (16-10) vs. #3 Penn State-Behrend (18-7) rounding out the semifinal action at 8:00pm. The 2010 men’s final four matchups mirror the 2009 final four. The Championship games will be played on Saturday (2/27) with the women hitting the court at 1:00pm and the men at 3:30pm. The winners of the AMCC Tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Medaille College men’s basketball team will look to turn the tide heading into the AMCC Tournament as they dropped their third game in the last four with a (72-68) loss at Pitt-Greensburg. The loss drops the Mavs to (21-4) overall and they finish AMCC play atop the standings at (16-4). It was a close game throughout as the score was tied six times and the lead changed hands eleven times. (more…)

Thirteen was an unlucky number for the Medaille men’s basketball team as the Mavs lost for the first time on their home floor leaving them with a (12-1) regular season record in the Sullivan Center. The loss came at the hands of Pitt-Bradford as the Panthers dominated en route to a (79-63) road victory. It is the second time that Pitt-Bradford has beaten Medaille this season but this time it was much more convincing than the (68-65) win they earned in Bradford, PA on January 13th. (more…)

The Medaille College men’s basketball held off the visiting Frostburg State Bobcats (81-77) to clinch their second straight Regular Season Conference Title. The victory moves the Mavs to (21-2) overall and (16-2) in AMCC play. The (21) victories ties a program best for wins in a season as they set that mark in their remarkable run to the NCAA Tournament last season. (more…)

Male: Chris Moscato (Sr. – Buffalo, NY)
In a (1-1) week for the Mavs Chris led the way as he averaged twelve points and four assists. Chris is the all time leader in assists as he has (377) in his career. With a one point victory at Penn State-Behrend the Mavs reached the twenty win plateau for the second straight season as they are now (20-2).

Female: Susanne Black (Fr. – Houghton, NY)
In a (2-0) week for the Lady Mavs Susanne was a steady force as she scored (20) points, pulled down (16) boards and blocked (3) shots. The Lady Mavs are (20-2) overall and (17-0) in AMCC play and have won ten straight games. The Lady Mavs have reached the twenty win mark in five of the last six seasons.

The Medaille College men’s basketball team narrowly escaped against Mt. Aloysius when they played them at home in early January. They would not escape the Mounties this time as Mt. Aloysius upset the AMCC’s top team (65-64) in snowy Cresson, PA. The game featured nine ties and twelve lead changes but the Mounties would hang on for a huge AMCC victory. (more…)

Well it seems that “Mother Nature” is beginning to wreak havoc on the AMCC basketball schedule as games are being postponed due to heavy snowfall. The Medaille College basketball teams were set to face Mt. Aloysius in Cresson, PA this afternoon but the precipitation has moved those games to tomorrow (2/7) at 1:00pm (women) and 3:00pm (men). The entire slate of AMCC games scheduled for today have been pushed to tomorrow as a result of this brutal storm. Stay posted to www.medaillesports.com for further information.

The 22nd ranked Medaille College men’s basketball team won its third straight over AMCC rival Penn State-Behrend (76-74) in Erie, PA this evening. The matchups between these two teams are turning into epic battles as the Mavs total margin of victory during their winning streak over the Lions is six points. The Mavs upended Behrend earlier this season (65-64) in the Sullivan Center and in their final meeting of the 2008-2009 season the Mavs held on for a three point victory. Tonight’s victory was the first for Medaille at Behrend since December 1, 2000 (a 61-60 win) and it gives the Mavs the second twenty win season in program history as they accomplished that feat for the first time last season. Female: Lindsay Bergman (Jr. – Buffalo, NY)(Basketball)
In a (2-0) week for the Lady Mavs Lindsay came off the bench to lead the team in rebounding, pulling down (17) boards for the week. She also went (4 for 4) from the floor and (7 for 8 ) from the charity stripe for (15) points and blocked (3) shots on the defensive end. The Lady Mavs are (18-2) overall and remain perfect in conference play at (15-0).

Male: Mike Berkun (Sr. – Getzville, NY)(Basketball)
Mike had a career game in a win over Franciscan as he scored (24) points while tying a program record by knocking down (7) three pointers. He was (8 for 11) from the floor and (7 for 9) from behind the arc in that game. For the week he had (31) points and (6) assists. The Mavericks are now (19-1) overall and (14-1) in AMCC play.
