Bowling Rounds Out Season With Strong Showing

bowl teamThe Medaille College women’s bowling team finished its 2010 season as they took part in a pair of tournaments in Schenectady, NY this past weekend.  On Saturday they competed at the Boulevard Bowl Collegiate Classic where they finished in fifth place in doubles play. The duo of Michelle Spencer (Depew, NY/Depew) and Melissa Sandoval (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) placed eleventh with Sandoval rolling a high game of (214) and Spencer a (210).  The pair of Elizabeth Wilson (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) and Kathryn Kacalski (Buffalo, NY/St. Mary’s) finished in 12th with high games of (203) and (223) respectively.  In the singles event senior Laura Mauger (Clarence, NY/Clarence) was spectacular finishing in the medals with a 3rd place performance.  (more…)

Laura Mauger

Female: Laura Mauger (Sr. – Clarence, NY)(Bowling)

Laura was spectacular in a pair of events this weekend. In the Boulevard Bowl Collegiate Classic she received the third place medal in the 23 doubles teams event. She averaged (217) and rolled a high game of (241) in singles. On Sunday at the 16th Annual SCCC Invitational she finished in fourth place with a (196) average and a high game of (219). The Lady Mavs finished the 2010 season with a (11-10) record against NCAA teams.


Ryan Murdie

Male: Ryan Murdie (Sr. – Kenmore, NY)(Volleyball)

Ryan had an unbelievable week as the Mavs went (4-2) and beat three Top 15 teams. For the week he posted (102) kills while hitting at a (.374) clip. In five matches against ranked teams he had (92) kills, a (.400) kill percentage, (13) blocks, (7) service aces and (18) digs for the 14th ranked Mavericks. The team is currently (11-4) overall and (5-0) in NECVA Western Division play.

Barton Sparkles at Kutztown Invitational

bartonThe Medaille College women’s bowling team matched up against some of the top teams in NCAA Bowling and they held their own finishing the weekend with a (4-6) mark.  They posted victories against Coppin State, Florida A&M, Long Island University and Stephen F. Austin.  The field consisted of (193) bowlers and senior Becca Barton (Great Bend, PA/Susquehanna Valley)(pictured) sparkled, finishing 18th overall with an average score of  (201.5) and a high game of  (238).  Senior Laura Mauger (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) also bowled well with an average of (194.1) and a high game of (221).  Meanwhile freshman Melissa Sandoval (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) had her best performance of the season with a high game of (192) and a (176.5) average.  The Lady Mavs are now (11-10) on the season against NCAA teams.

Lady Mavs Struggle at Blue & Gold Classic

kacalski_kathyrnThe Medaille College women’s bowling team headed to South Bend, IN this past weekend to take part in the Blue & Gold Classic.  They competed in eight different matches over the two day event and were only able to come away with one victory.  On Day One of the tournament the Lady Mavs fell to Viterbo, Robert Morris Zion, Wright State and University of Central Florida.  They were led by Kathryn Kacalski (Buffalo, NY/St. Mary’s)(pictured) who rolled a high game of (235) while teammate Laura Mauger (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) posted a high score of (209).  On Day Two the Lady Mavs went (1-3).  They bested Lindenwood (706-629) in the opener before dropping matches to University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Grand Valley State and Viterbo.  The Lady Mavs went (1-7) on the weekend and the loss to Wisconsin was the lone NCAA match that they participated in during the Classic.

Ryan Metz

Male: Ryan Metz (Sr. – Cheektowaga, NY)(Volleyball)

In a 2-2 week for the Mavs Ryan led the way. He finished with 49 kills while hitting at a .327 clip. He also had 18 digs, 10 blocks and 3 service aces.



Laura Mauger

Female: Laura Mauger (Jr. – Clarence Center, NY)(Bowling)

Laura had a stellar weekend at SUNY-IT as she finished in 2nd place in the overall standings. She rolled a high game of 267 and averaged 206 for the weekend. She was also part of a tandem that finished in 7th place in the doubles standings.

Lady Mavs Begin Season on a Winning Note

bartonThe Lady Mavs opened their 2009-2010 season at the Penn State Classic this past weekend.  In day one of competition Medaille posted a (4-2) record as they bested R.I.T. (882-828), Penn State-Altoona (862-774) and Monmouth (785-728 – match #1)(832-795 – match #2) while dropping the matches against E.C.C. (848-891) and Briarcliff (760-957).  The Lady Mavs were led by Becca Barton (Great Bend, PA/Susquehanna)(pictured) who rolled a team best (234) while posting a (188.5) average.  Senior captain Laura Mauger (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) averaged (172.8) to help Medaille to a winning day.  In her first three matches of the day sophomore Kathryn Kacalski (Buffalo, NY/St. Mary’s) also bowled very well, with a high game of (214).  Day two would see the Lady Mavs in Baker play as they split their four matches on the day.  They defeated Penn State-Altoona (660-515) and Monmouth (624-454) and dropped a pair to E.C.C. (680-686) and SUNY-IT (567-699).  The Lady Mavs will have a month off before heading to Allentown, PA to take part in the Roto Grip Keystone Classic on Sunday (12/27) and Monday (12/28).

Bowling Season Ends in Sectionals

haag 1The Lady Mavs Bowling team made their first appearance ever in the Sectionals as they took to the lanes in Allentown, PA.  The Lady Mavs would struggle a bit as they finished 7th out of the nine teams that competed.  The Lady Mavs had a total pinfall of (10,804) with the winning team, Maryland-Eastern Shore, knocking down a total of (12,027) pins.  Three Lady Mavs received academic honors over the weekend as Laura Mauger (Clarence, NY/Clarence), Melissa Haag (Webster, NY/Webster-Thomas)(pictured), and Kathryn Kacalski (Buffalo, NY/St. Mary’s) were recognized for their outstanding performance in the classroom.  The Lady Mavs will look to improve upon their season in 2009-2010 as they will aim for the National Tournament.

Lady Mavs End Regular Season on a High Note

wanglerThe Medaille College women’s bowling team hosted SUNY-IT on “Senior Day” at Thruway Lanes.  Medaille would take the match (3-0).  In the team match play portion the Lady Mavs won game one (922-787) and in game two (815-745).  The teams then headed into the best of seven Baker play format where Medaille won that (4-1); (153-174, 172-163, 166-159, 135-133).  Leading the charge for Medaille was a pair of seniors, Kimberly Wangler (Depew, NY/Maryvale)(pictured) who rolled a team high (202) along the way and Melissa Haag (Webster, NY/Webster-Thomas) who had her best score of the day with a (183).  Junior, Becca Barton (Great Bend, PA/Susquehanna Valley) tossed in a (201) enroute to the victory.  The Lady Mavs finish regular season play ranked 18th nationally and with a (15-7) record.  They have qualified for sectional play which will take place in Allentown , PA with the top four teams advancing to the National Tournament.

barton_rebeccaRebecca Barton (Jr. – Women’s Bowling – Great Bend, PA) led the Lady Mavs to a second place finish at the Schenectady County Community College Invitational.  She finished second overall out of (41) bowlers with a total pinfall of (1,707).  She rolled a high game of (258).  This is the second time this year she has received this honor.

 

kotrys_tomTom Kotrys (Fr. – Men’s Volleyball – Wheatfield, NY) kept up his strong play as he helped the 13th ranked Mavs to a (1-1) week.  He put down (11) kills with only (4) errors for a (.292) kill percentage.  He also came up with (8) blocks on the defensive side while serving up (2) aces.

Lady Mavs Roll to Second Place Finish

wanglerThe Medaille College women’s bowling team took to the lanes at the Schenectady County Commmunity College Invitational, and came away with a second place finish in the field of seven teams.  Leading the charge for the Lady Mavs was junior, Rebecca Barton (Great Bend, PA/Susquehanna Valley), who sparkled with a (1,707) total pinfall, which was good for 2nd place overall.  Barton posted a high game of (258) on the day.  Also putting up impressive numbers was senior, Kimberly Wangler (Depew, NY/Maryvale)(pictured), who finished 6th overall in the singles competition and rolled a (226) for a high game.  The top score posted for Medaille in this competition came from the arm of junior, Laura Mauger (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) who bowled a (268), she finished 9th in the singles competition.  The Lady Mavs will close out their season with a home match against SUNY-IT on February 21st.
