Male: Brandon Lumadue (Jr. – Cheektowaga, NY)(baseball)
Brandon had an awesome week from the dish as he was (12 for 19) for a (.632) batting average. He belted out a pair of home runs and a pair of doubles while driving in nine runs and scoring nine times as well. He continues to rise to the top of every offensive stat category in the programs all time record book as he leads the Mavs towards the AMCC playoffs.

Female: Amanda Westling (Sr. – Dunkirk, NY)(softball)
Amanda went (5 for 10) from the plate for a (.500) batting average including a double. She scored twice and drove in two runs as well. She has been solid all season from the plate and has been the Lady Mavs most solid starting pitcher.

It was a back and forth affair all afternoon as Medaille swept the pesky Pitt-Bradford Panthers at home. In the first game, Medaille and Bradford traded runs in the first inning, as well as alternating (5) run innings in the bottom of the fifth and top of the sixth. It would take extra baseball to determine the winner of game one, when in the bottom of the eighth, junior Brandon Lumadue (Cheektowaga, NY/West Seneca East) (pictured), with a man on second and third, hit into a walk off error as the Bradford shortstop booted a ground ball ending the game (7-6). Lumadue would go (2 for 4) with (1) run, (1) walk and (1) RBI and senior Brian Vital (North Grafton, MA/Grafton) would throw (2.2) innings in relief, giving up just (1) run while striking out the side in both the seventh and eighth innings. Male: Ricky Reed (Jr. – Rochester, NY)(Basketball)
In the 21st ranked Mavs only game of the week Ricky led Medaille to their first ever win at Frostburg State (74-70). He netted a team high 18 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out 3 assists. The Mavs remain unbeaten on the season at 13-0.

Female: Kacie Mills (Jr. – Buffalo, NY)(Basketball)
Kacie is receiving this honor for the second straight week as the Lady Mavs went (1-1). In two games she scored 34 points, while pulling down 6 boards and assisting on 8 buckets. The Lady Mavs are 11-2 overall and sit atop the AMCC standings at 8-0.

Male: Keith Hack (Sr. – Hopewell Junction, NY)(Basketball)
Keith helped the Mavs to a (3-0) week as he averaged (17.7) points, (4.7) rebounds and (2.0) assists. He tallied (19) points in the Mavs first ever win over Geneseo State and he was named the Player of the Game in a five point win over Wells College in the AD PRO Sports Classic.

Female: Meghan Dougherty (So. – Buffalo, NY)(Basketball)
Meghan scored the game tying layup and hit the game winning free throw in a one point victory over Fitchburg State. She averaged (11.3) points and (4.0) assists in a (2-1) week for the Lady Mavs.

The Medaille College women’s lacrosse team headed to Morrisville State in an effort to get back on a winning track. The Lady Mavs put forth a strong effort before falling (15-11). The Lady Mavs would open the scoring on a goal by senior Melyssa Tollar (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) just (2:02) into play before Morrisville went on a four goal run. Tollar would finish the day with four tallies. The teams would battle to a (7-5) halftime score, with Morrisville State leading. The hosts would pour on the offense in the second half, scoring five straight goals, before Medaille rallied to get within four goals with just under nine minutes remaining. They would get no closer as Morrisville held on for the victory. Sophomore Corinne Nasca (Orchard Park, NY/Hamburg) chipped in with three goals while Jodi Lang (Tonawanda, NY/St. Mary’s)(pictured) scored a goal and dished out two assists. The loss drops Medaille to (2-5) on the season, they will head to Frostburg State on Saturday (4/18) for a 1:00pm faceoff.

After a disappointing second half against Keuka College in their first ever NEAC game the Lady Mavs took their frustrations out on Wilson College in a (17-1) drubbing. Medaille a used a balnaced attack to upend their new conference foe as eleven players found the back of the net and thirteen made it onto the scoresheet. Freshman Katie Vanderwenken (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango)(pictured) scored two goals and assisted on another and teammate Melyssa Tollar (West Seneca, NY West Seneca East) chipped in with another hat trick. Junior goalkeeper Betty Herberger (Amherst, NY/Amherst) stopped (10) Wilson shots while only allowing one to get by her. The Lady Mavs are now (2-3) overall and (1-1) in NEAC play. They will take to the field on Saturday (4/11) at 2:30pm for another conference affair against Cazenovia College. That will be the Lady Mavs final home game and will be their annual “Senior Day”.

In the final game of his career, Bill Gersitz (Sr. – Men’s Basketball – Buffalo, NY) was brilliant as he scored (18) points, knocking down all eight of his field goal attempts, and pulled down (9) boards. This terrific performance came in the Mavs’ first-ever NCAA Tournament game, a heartbreaking (90-79) loss to John Carroll University. The Mavs finished the 2008-2009 season with a program best record of (21-7).

The Medaille College men’s volleyball team headed into their tri-match with SUNY-IT and Stevenson University on a three match win streak. The Mavs faced SUNY-IT in the opening match and upended the host team (3-1); (27-30, 30-24, 30-26, 30-25). In that win the Mavs were led by junior, Ryan Murdie (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East)(pictured) who had a team high (18) kills, while freshman, setter, Doug Martin (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) had his best day as a collegian with (50) assists. The Mavs then faced Stevenson University and fell in thrilling five set match (2-3); (30-26, 22-30, 25-30, 30-17, 12-15). The split puts Medaille at (11-9) overall and they are (6-2) in NECVA Western Division play. Next up for the Mavs is a home matchup with crosstown rival D’Youville College on Wednesday (3/4) at 7:00pm.

The Lady Mavs took to the home hardwood for the final time in the regular season and they did not disappoint as they rolled past AMCC foe, Franciscan University (60-40). Both teams got off to a slow start as the score was (11-8) halfway through the first half. The Lady Mavs then began to put on the defensive pressure, forcing the Barons into countless turnovers and converting many of them into fast break buckets. Medaille finished the game with (24) fast break points to none for Franciscan. The beginning of the second stanza would see the visitors make a slight run but Medaille would squash any hopes of a comeback enroute to the victory. In the win Medaille got a pair of ten point games from junior, Tiffany Sullivan (Rochester, NY/Nazareth Academy) and sophomore, Amanda Boron (Lockport, NY/Starpoint). Boron also pulled down (6) caroms on the night, while Sullivan tied a career high with (5) steals. Playing in her final home game, senior, Heather Belmont (Rochester, NY/Nazareth Academy)(pictured) tallied (5) points, pulled down (2) boards, blocked a shot and came up with (2) steals. Freshman, Tanisha Travis (Fairport, NY/Fairport) grabbed a team high (10) rebounds. The win moves the Lady Mavs to (14-10) overall and (10-7) in AMCC play. They will head to Hilbert College on Saturday (2/21) to take on the Hawks in their regular season finale.
