David Bennett

David Bennett (Sr. – Men’s Lacrosse – Macedon, NY)

Dave led the Mavs to a (3-1) week as he netted (14) goals and dished out (9) assists. He also scored two game winning goals, the first one came with thirteen seconds left to lift Medaille over Cazenovia and then he netted a goal in the second overtime at Washington & Jefferson. The Cazenovia win assured the Mavs of a spot in the NEAC Championship game. He has a Medaille record (31) goals and (57) points thus far this season.


Jodi Lang

Jodi Lang (So. – Women’s Lacrosse – Tonawanda, NY)

In the Lady Mavs (0-2) week, both losses were by a goal, she scored (2) goals and (2) assists at Wells College. She then jumped in net for the Lady Mavs and stopped (17) shots against Cazenovia College. The Lady Mavs finished the 2009 season at (2-8).

Lady Mavs End Season With Heartbreaking Loss

tollar_KeukaThe Medaille College women’s lacrosse team ended their season on the road at Cazenovia College this afternoon with a heartbreaking (13-12) loss.  The Lady Mavs jumped out to an early (2-0) lead as senior Melyssa Tollar (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East)(pictured) opened the scoring, she finished with five goals on the day.  The Wildcats would score two straight to even the score before Medaille would regain their two goal edge minutes later.  The Lady Mavs would take a (7-5) lead into the intermission.  Cazenovia would open the second half with a quick goal and would go on to outscore Medaille (8-5) in the second frame.  The story of the game would be the play of Jodi Lang (Tonawanda, NY/St. Mary’s) who stepped into the goaltending position for the first time this season.  Lang was spectacular in cage, stopping (17) Wildcat shots. Sophomore Marilyn Meyer (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) tallied three goals for the Lady Mavs while Bridget George (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) and Corinne Nasca (Orchard Park, NY/Hamburg) each scored twice.  The Lady Mavs finished the 2009 season with a (2-8) record.

Lady Mavs Drop Double OT Thriller

IMG_6603The Medaille College women’s lacrosse team visited NEAC foe Wells College this afternoon and the two teams would trade goals throughout an exciting double overtime affair.  The host Express would come out on top (16-15).  The story of the day would be senior Melyssa Tollar (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) who would tally six goals.  Those would be significant as she becomes the schools all time leader in total points (103) and the first player in school history (male or female) to reach the (100) goal mark.  She now has (102) goals in her career.  Sophomore Michelle Kemp (Rochester, NY/Gates/Chili)(pictured) would tally her fifth and final goal of the game at the end of regulation to send the game into extra sessions.  In the first overtime Jodi Lang (Tonawanda, NY/St. Mary’s) would extend the game for Medaille with her second goal of the contest, she would also assist on another goal. A pair of second year players would chip in with a goal and an assist apiece as Corinne Nasca (Orchard Park, NY/Hamburg) and Marilyn Meyer (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) accomplished that feat.  The loss drops Medaille to (2-7) overall and (1-3) in NEAC play.  They will close out the season on Sunday (4/26) at Cazenovia College at 1:00pm.

Frostburg Rolls Past Lady Mavs in Women’s Lacrosse

IMG_6814The Lady Mavs faced off against Frostburg State for the first time in their history and the Bobcats would not be a gracious host as they outscored Medaille (14-1) in the first thirty minutes en route to an (18-4) victory.  For a second straight game the Lady Mavs received a strong performance from sophomore Jodi Lang (Tonawanda, NY/St. Mary’s) who led the team with a goal and two assists.  Her two assists give Jodi (18) for her career, which moves her into second place all time in that category.  Senior goalkeeper, Betty Herberger (Amherst, NY/Amherst)(pictured) played another nice game as she stopped (17) Frostburg shots. The Lady Mavs fall to (2-6) on the season and they will head to Wells College on Monday (4/20) for a 4:30pm NEAC tilt.

Lady Mavs Run Out of Gas Against Cazenovia

IMG_6648The first half of the women’s lacrosse game against NEAC rival Cazenovia College was a back and forth affair as the teams combined for (19) goals, with Cazenovia holding a (10-9) halftime advantage.  The second half belonged to the visiting Wildcats as they ran away to a (20-13) victory.  Despite a strong effort from Medaille goalie Betty Herberger (Amherst, NY/Amherst), who finished with (14) saves, the Lady Mavs were not able to get any closer than four goals in the late stages of the game.  Sophomore Corinne Nasca (Orchard Park, NY/Hamburg)(pictured) led the Lady Mavs with five goals.  (more…)

Women’s Lacrosse Earns First NEAC Victory

IMG_6760After a disappointing second half against Keuka College in their first ever NEAC game the Lady Mavs took their frustrations out on Wilson College in a (17-1) drubbing.  Medaille a used a balnaced attack to upend their new conference foe as eleven players found the back of the net and thirteen made it onto the scoresheet.  Freshman Katie Vanderwenken (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango)(pictured) scored two goals and assisted on another and teammate Melyssa Tollar (West Seneca, NY West Seneca East) chipped in with another hat trick.  Junior goalkeeper Betty Herberger (Amherst, NY/Amherst) stopped (10) Wilson shots while only allowing one to get by her. The Lady Mavs are now (2-3) overall and (1-1) in NEAC play.  They will take to the field on Saturday (4/11) at 2:30pm for another conference affair against Cazenovia College.  That will be the Lady Mavs final home game and will be their annual “Senior Day”.

Women’s Lacrosse Drops Conference Opener

IMG_6824The Medaille College women’s lacrosse team played its first ever conference game as they hosted Keuka College at the Nichols School today.  The first half was a hard fought battle but a strong second half by Keuka would sink the Lady Mavs as they fell (19-9).  Medaille opened the scoring on a goal by senior Melyssa Tollar (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) just (1:44) into play, she would finish the day with a team high four goals.  The teams would trade goals throughout the opening half with Keuka holding an (8-7) lead at the break.  Junior, goalkeeper, Betty Herberger (Amherst, NY/Amherst)(pictured) kept Medaille in the game early as she stopped several point blank attempts, finishing the day with (13) saves.  (more…)

Melyssa Tollar

Melyssa Tollar (Sr. – Women’s Lacrosse – West Seneca, NY)

In her first game of the season Melyssa led the Lady Mavs with a hat trick in a tough loss at Alfred University. She increased her all time record of career goals scored to (82) with her three tallies. The Lady Mavs are (1-2) on the young season.

 

Ryan Murdie

Ryan Murdie (Jr. – Men’s Volleyball – Kenmore, NY)

Ryan was a dominant force in the NECVA Western Division Playoffs. He led the Mavs with (41) kills and posted (9) blocks defensively. The Mavs won their first two matches of the crossover tournament which qualified them for the NECVA Tournament which begins on Friday, April 3rd at 8:00pm vs. Baruch College. That tournament is being held at M.I.T..

Women’s Lacrosse Falls at Alfred

Tollar_wlax_08The Medaille College women’s lacrosse was coming off its first win of the season as they headed to Alfred University to take on the Saxons on Saturday afternoon.  The task would prove to be too much as Alfred bested Medaille (21-5).  In the loss the Lady Mavs were led by senior Melyssa Tollar (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East)(pictured) who tallied three goals. The loss drops Medaille to (1-2) on the season, they will play in their first ever conference game on Thursday (4/2) as Keuka College comes into town for a 4:30pm faceoff.

Women’s Lacrosse Notches First Victory

IMG_5450The Medaille College women’s lacrosse team opened up the home portion of their schedule with a hard fought (9-8) victory over Penn State-Abington.  The visiting Lions struck quickly with two goals within the first three minutes.  The Lady Mavs would respond with three of the next four tallies, with the teams then trading a goal apiece to head to the break knotted at (4-4).  The second half would be dominated by two Lady Mavs as Corinne Nasca (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park)(pictured) scored three of her team high four goals in the second stanza.  Junior, goalkeeper, Betty Herberger (Amherst, NY/Amherst) made six of her eight saves after the break, several of them were of the point blank variety, preserving the win for Medaille.  The Lady Mavs received a strong performance from sophomore Jodi Lang (Tonawanda, NY/St. Mary’s) who finished with a goal and three assists.  Making a return home for the visiting Lions was freshman Leanne Retzer (Amherst, NY/Amherst) who tallied the games final goal with twelve seconds remaining.  The win boosts the Lady Mavs record to (1-1) while Penn State-Abington falls to (0-4).  Medaille will head to Alfred next Saturday (3/28) to take on the Saxons at 1:00pm.
