Cross Country Finishes 8th at AMCC Championships

The AMCC Championships were hosted by Penn State-Behrend this past weekend and the Medaille squads both finished in the eighth slot.  On the women’s side the Lady Mavs posted a team score of (228) and finished eighth in the field of ten teams.  The Franciscan women defended their 2008 title finishing first at (25).  Leading the way for Medaille was junior Ashlea Browning (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown)(pictured-left) who finished in 36th place with a time of (33:20).  She was followed by Sarah Wind (Clarence, NY/Clarence) who ended up in (46th) crossing the finish line in (39:08).  On the men’s side the Mavs also were slotted eighth in an eleven team field with a team score of (241).  The Lions from Penn State-Behrend won the men’s championship with a score of (17).  The Mavs top runner was Chris Ribble (Addison, NY/Addison) who finished 34th with a time of (34:02) while Chris Musial (Lancaster, NY/St. Francis) ended up (42nd) at (36:05).

Cross Country Competes at Nazareth

Browning, AshleaThe men’s and women’s cross country teams headed to Rochester to take part in the Golden Flyer Invitational hosted by Nazareth College.  The women would head onto the course first where the Lady Mavs would place 8th out of nine teams, with a team score of (193).  Medaille was paced by junior Ashlea Browning (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown)(pictured) who finished in 26th place with a team best time of (18:48).  On the men’s side the Mavs finished in the seventh slot in a nine team field with a score of (213).  Leading the way was sophomore Chris Ribble (Addison, NY/Addison) who placed 28th with a time of (21:57).  Next up for Medaille are the CCOC Championships hosted by Hobart & William Smith College’s on Saturday (10/17) at 11:00am.

Cross Country Competes at Letchworth

George, BridgetThe men’s and women’s cross-country teams both participated today in the 31st annual Geneseo Cross Country invitational at Letchworth State Park. On a slow and damp course the girls finished (22nd) out of 24 teams with a cumulative time of (174:38.7). The ladies were led by junior Bridget George (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) (pictured) who finished with a time of (28:38.9). The Lady Mavs also had two first time runners at Letchworth as freshman Heather Moore (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) posted a time of (36:30.2) and freshman Sarah Wind (Clarence, NY/Clarence) finished with a time of (41:24.7). The men’s team finished last out of 24 teams and were led by sophomore Chris Ribble (Addison, NY/Addison) who posted a time of (32:17.4). McAllister_holleyIn a (2-3) week for the Lady Mavs, Holley McAllister (Jr. – Women’s Volleyball – Rochester, NY) had (90) digs, (9) aces, as she led Medaille from her defensive position.

 

 

ribble_chrisChris Ribble (Fr. – Cross Country – Addison, NY) became the first Medaille men’s cross country runner to win an event as he finished 1st in a dual meet at Hilbert College with a time of (33:37).

Cross Country Teams Win at Hilbert

ribble_chrisThursday was a landmark day for the Medaille College cross country teams as both teams won at Hilbert.  Each team went head to head against the Hawks at Frontier H.S..  The women came away with a (24pt. to 31pt.) win with sophomore, Bridget George (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), finishing 1st overall with a time of (22:49) over the 5k course.  On the men’s side the Mavs edged the Hawks (25pt. to 30pt.) with freshman, Chris Ribble (Addison, NY/Addison)(pictured), crossing the finish line in the top spot with a time of (33:37) over the 8k track.  The Mavs will again head to Hilbert to take part in the Hilbert Invitational on Saturday (10/18) with the women starting at 11:00am and the men’s race begininng at noon.

Cross Country Competes at SUNY Geneseo Invitational

browning The Medaille Cross Country team competed in its fourth competition of the season at the 2008 SUNY Geneseo Invitational at Letchworth State Park on Saturday. The women’s team finished 14th overall (out of 17 teams) with a total time of 2:28.26 in the 6k race. In a field of 314 runners, sophomore Ashlea Browning (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown)(pictured) led the way for the Mavericks finishing 82nd with a time of 26:11.60 with sophomore Bridget George (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) close behind coming in 97th at 26:43.30. Browning set a new standard for herself improving her time by over four minutes from her first race. The men’s 8k race saw sophomore Chris Musial (Lancaster, NY/St. Francis) complete the course with a time of 32:34. Musial also set a new personal mark finishing four minutes faster than his time recorded in his first race of the season. The Mavericks next competition is scheduled for October 11 at Roberts Wesleyan College.

Medaille Runners Make 2008 Debut

The Medaille College cross country team had their first competitive run today as they took part in the Penn State-Behrend Invitational.  The women went off first as they were running a 5k course.  There were 19 women’s teams participating and the Lady Mavs ended up in 15th place, ahead of three AMCC schools (Hilbert, Pitt-Bradford, and La Roche).  The top finisher for Medaille was sophomore, Bridget George (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) with a time of (22:42).  The men ran an 8k course at the Penn State-Behrend Invitational with 15 teams participating.  The Mavs would finish ahead of only one team as they were 14th on the day.  The Mavs top runner was freshman, Christopher Ribble (Addison, NY/Addison) who finished with a team best time of (34:05).  Both teams will next race on Saturday (9/20) in the U.B. Stampede at Beaver Island State Park with the women taking off at 11:30am while the men have a 12:15pm start time.

Women’s Volleyball Notches First Victories of 2008

Burgstahler_micheleAfter a tough (0-2) start for the Medaille College women’s volleyball team the Lady Mavs rallied on day two of the Spartan Classic to beat Cazenovia College (3-1).  Once they tasted victory the Lady Mavs capped the day off with a second straight win as they outlasted Morrisville State (3-2) in what turned out to be a tough five set match. In their opening four games the Lady Mavs received strong play from Michele Burgstahler (Wilson, NY/Wilson)(pictured) who was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts.  The back to back victories even the Lady Mavs record at (2-2) on the year and they will take to the floor again on Friday (9/5) as they will face King’s College at 6:00pm at the Muhlenberg College Tournament.

Boughton Plays for Fort Wayne Fever Men’s Soccer

Men’s soccer standout Gary Boughton (Lancaster/Lancaster High School) will have solid experience with a nationally-competitive team once the fall season begins Friday, August 29. As Boughton starts his junior year at Medaille, the 5′9″ midfielder will have completed a summer season with the Fort Wayne Fever, a Premier Development League (PDL) team based in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

In 2007, Boughton scored three goals and four assists in his first year playing in the PDL. In the first half of he 2008 season, he has scored six goals and one assist for a total of thirteen points.

Cross Country 2008 Season Preview Posted

The Medaille College cross country team will enter its third season under the tutelage of Allison Carr in 2008. The 2007 season saw marked improvement for both teams as they improved their standing in the conference during the fall. The Lady Mavs finished fourth in the AMCC Championships while the men finished 7th. More »
