Huntley Parker Jr. Field in Brockport. Senior Junior Jess Bush (Dryden, NY/Dryden) scored in the second minute of play for the Golden Eagles, as Brockport would take a (1-0) lead early. Brockport would add another goal from senior Michelle Gibaud (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia), who was named tournament most valuable player, just after halftime. Medaille would cut the lead in half as Freeman buried home a free kick of the foot of junior Mary Smialek (Girard, PA/Girard) in the 67th minute. However, that would be as close as Medaille would get as one minute later Courtney Belding (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) would ice it for Brockport. The Lady Mavs seemed to cut the lead down to one again in the 78th minute; however, the goal was nullified by an offsides call, and that would end the Medaille comeback just short. Junior Alexa Wisel (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) made (11) saves in the loss as Medaille was outshot (25-6) by the Lady Golden Eagles.

It was a great day for Medaille College soccer. The men’s team won its first ever NCAA Tournament game and then the Lady Mavs went out and got their first every ECAC Tournament win as they bested Sage College (2-0) at Brockport State. The Lady Mavs got on the board in the 33rd minute when Mary Smialek (Girard, PA/Girard)(pictured) drove home a penalty kick. Then senior Laura Freeman (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore West) registered her (18th) goal of the year early in the second half as she rocketed a shot from 15 yards out into the top right corner of the goal. From that point on the Lady Mavs locked Sage College down. Junior goalkeepers Brittany DeBole (Rochester, NY/Northstar Academy) and Alexa Wisel (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) split the shutout, with Wisel stopping both of the Sage College shots on net. The win gets Medaille into double digits in the win column as they are now (10-8-2) overall. They will face Brockport State tomorrow (11/15) at noon in the ECAC Upstate Championship game.

The Lady Maverick women’s soccer team headed into their first round AMCC playoff game on the heels of two straight shutouts in which they outscored their opponents (8-0). One of those wins came against Pitt-Bradford four days ago in Bradford, PA as the Lady Mavs walked off the pitch as the third seeded team in the AMCC playoff picture. The Lady Mavs hosted the Panthers in their playoff opener and dominated in every area of the game except where it counts most, as Pitt-Bradford made a goal in the 13th minute hold up in a (1-0) upset of Medaille. The Lady Mavs outshot Pitt-Bradford (21-4) and had (14) corner kick opportunities to the Panthers two, while dominating the time of possession. The Lady Mavs best scoring opportunities came on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute as Chelsea Buzyniski (Appleton, NY/Newfane) was fouled hard in the box and was awarded the P.K., she stepped up and blistered a shot that rang off the crossbar deflecting right back to Megan Bagley (Kenmore, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy) who chipped her rebound shot just over the crossbar. After that the Panther keeper kept the Lady Mavs from finding the back of the net despite many quality chances. The loss drops Medaille to (9-8-2) on the season and they will wait to hear the ECAC Tournament bracket release on Monday (11/9) to see if they have been selected for postseason play.

The Medaille College women’s soccer team wrapped up the #3 seed in the AMCC Tournament with a (4-0) road win at conference foe Pitt-Bradford. The Lady Mavs dominated throughout as they held the Panthers to three shots, none of them were on goal. Meanwhile Medaille blistered the Pitt-Bradford goalkeepers with (29) shots, (15) of which found their way on frame. Senior Katie Schelble (Springville, NY/Springville Griffith) opened up the scoring in the 23rd minute off an assist from Katie Bush (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown). They would strike again seven minutes later as Megan Bagley (Kenmore, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy) beat the Panther keeper on an offering from Chelsea Buzyniski (Appleton, NY/Newfane)(pictured) as they took a (2-0) lead into the break. They came out of the locker room and continued their strong play as Katie Botsford (Penfield, NY/Penfield) tallied her first marker of the year with the assist once again coming off the foot of Buzyniski. The scoring would be wrapped up in the 81st minute as Schelble knocked in her second of the game with Botsford playing that ball to her. The win moves Medaille to (9-7-2) overall and they finish conference play at (7-2-1). These two teams will meet again on Saturday (10/31) as they face off in the first round of the AMCC Tournament at All High Stadium at 7:00pm.
