Lady Mavs Spend Winter Recess Teaching Kids

January 26, 2010 By: Mike Carbery Category: Events, Winter Sports, Women's Basketball No Comments →

MedailleWhile most Medaille College students were spending time with their families over the winter recess, the Medaille College women’s basketball team took some time away to teach the game of basketball to local children.  The Lady Mavs conducted a trio of basketball clinics throughout Buffalo as they went to St. Benedict’s, Sts. Peter & Paul and St. Leo’s parishes to teach the fundamentals of the game.  The Lady Mavs performed the community service in an effort to reach out to children while promoting the great game of basketball.  Many of these kids will play shortened games during halftime’s of Medaille College men’s and women’s basketball games as the season continues to unfold.  The photo above was following the Lady Mavs home victory over AMCC rival Pitt-Greensburg on January 16, 2010 when these kids showed off their skills at the intermission in a competitive contest.  The Lady Mavs return home this weekend when they host Franciscan University on Saturday (1/30) at 1:00pm.

December 05, 2009 By: Mike Carbery Category: Events No Comments →

IMG_5458The Medaille College Athletic Department hosted the 15th Annual Reindeer Run this morning and the event was a huge success.  The race saw a record (675) registrants with (599) runners completing the scenic 5k course.  It was a day that saw Mother Nature cooperate as no rain or snow fell and the 36 degree temperature seemed to suit the runners.  The top finisher on the men’s side was Michael Anderson (Liverpool, NY) who finished in a time of (17:10).  The top female finisher was Elizabeth Schultz (Buffalo, NY) who crossed the finish line in (18:48). The participants enjoyed themselves at the ever popular Reindeer Run post-race party as they enjoyed a wide variety of food and drinks along with complimentary massages.  Mark you calendars for 2010 as the 16th Annual Reindeer Run will take place on December 4th.  For a complete list of the 2009 race results click here.

Medaille’s NCAA Run Ends in Second Round

November 15, 2009 By: jw34 Category: Events, Fall Sports, Men's Soccer 3 Comments →

Gary BoughtonThe Mavericks lost in the second round of the NCAA tournament today, falling to (#10) Carnegie Mellon (1-0) in Pittsburgh, PA. The Mavericks came into the match with an 11 game shut-out streak (1,010 minutes) and added another (67) minutes until the Tartans were awarded a penalty kick and senior Ryan Browne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) kicked it past sophomore Ryan Goettel (Syracuse, NY / Cicero-North Syracuse) for the lone goal of the game and the winning score. Uncharacteristically, the Mavericks were outshot in the contest (15-7) and only registered one of their seven shots on goal. The loss ends Medaille’s bid for a National Championship, and is the first time in school history that Carnegie Mellon has advanced to the Sweet 16. The Mavericks had a historic season in which it saw its captain senior Gary Boughton (Lancaster, NY / Lancaster) become the NCAA Division III all-time assists leader (82), Head Coach Dan Krzyzanowicz win his (100) game of his head coaching career, and in which the Mavs won their first ever NCAA tournament game.  The Mavs finished the 2009 season with a teriffic (18-3-2) record.
