With four years’ experience as assistant coach for the men’s and women’s soccer teams at Medaille, Matt Andrews will now take on the head coach position for the women’s soccer team‘s 2008 season. Prior to coming to Medaille, Andrews spent seven years coaching high school soccer in western New York. He began coaching at Gates-Chili High School and continued at Clarence High School after moving to Buffalo in 2000.

Andrews is the director of goalkeepers for the Clarence Soccer Club and has previously coached club teams at various age levels. He holds a NSCAA Advanced Regional license and will soon complete his national license.

Originally a standout goalkeeper at Penfield High School near Rochester, Andrews earned bachelor’s degrees in history and education from Miami University in Ohio. He also earned a master’s degree in liberal studies from SUNY Brockport.

The women’s soccer season begins with an away game at Grove City College on Friday, August 29. The home opener will take place on Saturday, September 6 against Washington & Jefferson College at All High Stadium behind Bennett High School on Main Street in Buffalo.

Andrews says, “I am excited to build on the solid foundation the program currently has and look forward to developing a program that will compete each and every year for a championship in the highly competitive AMCC.

“We have an outstanding nucleus of returning players, some exciting first-year recruits and a group of transfers that should create a highly competitive training camp and an exciting year for the Medaille women’s soccer team.

“Our coaching staff is very close on both the women’s and men’s sides. I believe this will make for a smooth and successful transition that will just help our outstanding student-athletes.”
