Mavs Drop a Pair at La Roche

The Medaille College baseball team faced AMCC foe La Roche College in treacherous conditions in Pittsburgh, PA this afternoon having won four straight. Their fortunes would change on this road trip as the Red Hawks took the first game (14-4) and then held on for a (7-6) win in the nightcap, sweeping the Mavs. The first game saw junior Brandon Lumadue (Cheektowaga, NY/West Seneca East) continue his hot hitting as he went (2 for 3) from the plate while scoring a run. Junior Dan Barrancotta (Lockport, NY/Lockport) drove in a pair of runs with a double and was hit by a pitch to reach base twice in three at bats. On the mound for the Mavs was Matt Dunford (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon) who was charged with the loss in a four inning outing, he fanned five La Roche batters. The second was a tighter affair but the Mavs were unable to pull it out despite a perfect performance from the dish by sophomore Nick Kanutsu (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East)(pictured) who was (3 for 3) with a run and four runs batted in. Lumadue again was raking as he went (2 for 3) for the second straight game, scoring twice and drawing a walk in the loss. Senior Brian Vital (North Grafton, MA/Grafton) suffered his second loss of the season, throwing for five innings while striking out two. The losses drop Medaille to (13-11) overall and (7-5) in AMCC play. They will return to action on Wednesday (4/21) as they head to Penn State-Behrend for a 1:00pm first pitch.
