Lady Mavs Leave Florida on a High Note
After dropping a pair of games to Rivier College the previous day, the Medaille College softball team rebounded and swept Mitchell College on their final day of competition in Florida. In the first game the Lady Mavs upended the Mariner’s (10-4) with Amanda Westling (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) earning the victory. She pitched seven innings while striking out five batters. Junior Carrie Stahura (Depew, NY/Depew) pounded out three hits in five at-bats (including a double) while scoring two runs and driving in four more. Senior Holley McAllister (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) also went (3 for 5) as she had two doubles, scored a pair of runs and registered three RBI. Freshman Katie Gibbins (Eden, NY/Holy Angels) is beginning to make herself comfortable as part of the Medaille softball program, going (3 for 4) while crossing the plate twice in the victory. The second game would also see Medaille prevail as they outlasted the Mariner’s and the weather to improve to (5-5) on their Southern swing with a (6-0) victory over Mitchell. Freshman Megan Anderson (Lockport, NY/Lockport) pitched her way to victory as she fanned one batter in five innings of work as “Mother Nature” would not allow play to continue. Senior Laura Mauger (Clarence, NY/Clarence) was perfect from the dish, going (3 for 3) while Brieanna Brink (Buffalo, NY/Sacred Heart) also reached base on both of her at bats going (2 for 2), while scoring a run and stealing one base. The Lady Mavs will open up conference play on Saturday (3/27) in Steubenville, OH in a 1:00pm doubleheader.
