Lady Mavs Split With Division II Bloomfield
The trend of splitting doubleheaders continued for the Medaille College softball team as they posted another one against NCAA Division II Bloomfield College. The Lady Mavs fell (5-1) in the opener and played great in a (6-2) win in the second game. In the first game senior catcher Laura Mauger (Clarence, NY/Clarence) was strong behind the plate while also scoring the Lady Mavs lone run. Sophomore Brieanna Brink (Buffalo, NY/Sacred Heart)(pictured) went (1 for 3) while driving in Mauger. In the circle senior Amanda Westling (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) pitched seven strong innings while striking out five batters. In the second game Brink once again was a big contributor going (2 for 3) with a double and a run scored. Westling threw four more great innings allowing just one run, she also scored a run for the Lady Mavs. Senior Holley McAllister (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) went (3 for 4) with three singles, a stolen base, scored a run and drove in another. Freshman Katie Gibbins (Eden, NY/Holy Angels) saw her first action of the season as she went (2 for 4) with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Kristen Rohe (Buffalo, NY/Cleveland-Hill) earned her first win of the year as she came in to pitch the bottom of the fifth and turned the game over with the Lady Mavs ahead. The split leaves Medaille at (3-3) on the season. They willhave a day off on Tuesday before getting back to action on Wednesday (3/10) when they face Susquehanna University for a 2:00pm doubleheader.
