Mavs Finish 4th at Nazareth Invitational
The Medaille College men’s volleyball team began day two of the Nazareth Invitational with a (3-0); (30-24, 30-27, 30-23) sweep over #9 Stevens Institute of Technology. The Mavs were led to victory by senior Ryan Murdie (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East)(pictured) who pounded out (17) kills while hitting with precision at a (.519) clip. Junior setter Ryan Maxwell (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) posted (47) assists and Dan Jackson (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) led the team with (13) digs. The Mavs hit at a blistering (.386) pace while holding the Ducks to a (.192) kill percentage. In their second match of the day the Mavs succumbed in five sets to Nazareth College (3-2); (20-30, 30-28, 24-30, 30-26, 24-22). The Mavs had won their first two matches of the season against the 14th ranked Golden Flyers, including another epic five setter at home that Medaille won (23-21) in the fifth set. This time Nazareth would hang on for a victory in this budding rivalry. The Mavs received more strong play from the same trio of players as Murdie posted (22) more kills, Maxwell passed out (51) more assists while Jackson dug up (9) more balls. The Mavs once again hit the ball at a nice clip, finishing at (.310) in the loss. They also outblocked Nazareth (15-13) on the defensive side of things. The split leaves the Mavs at (11-4) on the season and they will head to SUNY-IT on Monday (2/15) for a tri-match.
