Mavs Clinch 2nd Straight AMCC Regular Season Title

The Medaille College men’s basketball held off the visiting Frostburg State Bobcats (81-77) to clinch their second straight Regular Season Conference Title. The victory moves the Mavs to (21-2) overall and (16-2) in AMCC play. The (21) victories ties a program best for wins in a season as they set that mark in their remarkable run to the NCAA Tournament last season. Today’s game featured twelve lead changes and five ties but the Mavericks would hold on for the victory. Senior Mike Berkun (Getzville, NY/Williamsville North) and Ron Malicki (Machias, NY/Pioneer)(pictured) each scored a team high (17) points with Malicki knocking down (5 of 6) shots from the floor while Berkun was (10 for 12) from the charity stripe. Senior guard Chris Moscato (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) was (5 for 7) from the field and (5 for 6) from behind the arc as he tied a career high with (16) points, he also dished out (4) more helpers to pad his all time lead in that category. The Mavs bench proved to be the difference in the game as they outscored the Bobcats reserves (25-11). The Mavs also outscored Frostburg State by (20) points from the free throw line. The Mavs earned a first round bye and home court advantage in the AMCC Tournament with this critical victory today. They will host Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday (2/17) at 8:00pm for “Senior Night” as the Mavs will have five seniors playing in their final regular season home game.
