Lady Mavs Roll in Battle of AMCC’s Best
The Medaille College women’s basketball team entered Altoona, PA this afternoon atop the AMCC standings and they took on Penn State-Altoona, the conference’s second place team. The Lady Lions would jump out to an early (7-2) lead but would then see the first of two huge Medaille runs as the Lady Mavs scored (18) of the games next (20) points to grab a (20-9) lead en route to a (65-44) thumping of Altoona. The Lady Mavs held a (36-23) lead at the break and began the second half with a (16-5) run, ballooning their lead to (52-28) and securing the victory. Junior Amanda Sahhar (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) filled up the nets as she tallied (17) points and pulled down (8) rebounds, while Meghan Dougherty (Buffalo, NY/Nichols) chipped in with (14) points. Giving the Lady Mavs a boost on the glass was freshman Susanne Black (Houghton, NY/Fillmore)(pictured) who grabbed a team high (10) caroms. The win keeps Medaille cruising as they have won six straight and are (16-2) overall and (13-0) in AMCC play. The Lady Mavs will head to Hamburg, NY on Wednesday (1/27) to face Hilbert College at 6:00pm in AMCC action.
