Volleyball Season Filled With Early Highlights

January 27, 2010 By: Mike Carbery Category: Men's Volleyball, Winter Sports No Comments →

Murdie_Scrimmage#1The Medaille College men’s volleyball team is only a quarter of the way through its 2010 season but they are beginning to pile up the milestones and accolades.  The first one came in the Mavs second match of the season, a win over Lasell College , when junior Dan Jackson (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) became the Mavs all time leader in digs.  He now has (729) in his career, the previous record was (655).  The Mavs then posted a monumental victory as they outlasted 7th ranked Nazareth College on January 19th in a thrilling five setter.  The Mavs would then rattle of three more victories over the weekend, all three set sweeps.  In their Sunday victory over SUNY-IT senior Ryan Metz (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) became only the third player in program history to reach the (1,000) kill milestone. He now has (1,002) and is (153) kills away from sole possesion of first place all time.  The (4-0) week for the Mavs catapulted them into the AVCA Top 15 Rankings as they are holding down the 15th spot.  The strong play of Ryan Murdie (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) during their winning streak earned the junior middle hitter NECVA Western Division Player of the Week honors.  The Mavs (6-2) will take to the floor again on Wednesday (2/3) at 7:00pm at Hilbert College.

January 26, 2010 By: Mike Carbery Category: Events, Winter Sports, Women's Basketball No Comments →

MedailleWhile most Medaille College students were spending time with their families over the winter recess, the Medaille College women’s basketball team took some time away to teach the game of basketball to local children.  The Lady Mavs conducted a trio of basketball clinics throughout Buffalo as they went to St. Benedict’s, Sts. Peter & Paul and St. Leo’s parishes to teach the fundamentals of the game.  The Lady Mavs performed the community service in an effort to reach out to children while promoting the great game of basketball.  Many of these kids will play shortened games during halftime’s of Medaille College men’s and women’s basketball games as the season continues to unfold.  The photo above was following the Lady Mavs home victory over AMCC rival Pitt-Greensburg on January 16, 2010 when these kids showed off their skills at the intermission in a competitive contest.  The Lady Mavs return home this weekend when they host Franciscan University on Saturday (1/30) at 1:00pm.
