Mavs Roll in AD PRO Sports Classic Opener
The Medaille College men’s basketball team opened play in the AD PRO Sports Classic as they hosted NAIA school Paul Smith’s College. All seventeen players for Medaille would see significant minutes as they rolled past the overmatched Bobcats (87-38). The Mavs would never trail in this one as fourteen players would fine their way onto the scoring ledger. Leading the way were a pair of guards as senior Mike Berkun (Getzville, NY/Williamsville North) and junior Ricky Reed (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta)(pictured) each tallied (12) points. Berkun connected on (4 of 6) from the floor while Reed knocked down (6 of 8). The Mavs dominated the glass as well, outrebounding Paul Smith’s (62-27) with sophomore transfer David Shuey (Newfane, NY/Newfane) pulling down a game high (13) points, seven of which came off the offensive glass. Freshman Anthony Battaglia (Lancaster, NY/Depew) came off the bench and dropped in (10) points on (4 of 6) shooting, including knocking down both of his attempts from behind the arc. The Mavs pushed the pace the entire evening as they outscored the Bobcats (22-0) in transition and dominated in the paint, holding a (58-14) edge there. The win moves Medaille to (2-0) on the young season and they will host Wells College on Saturday (11/21) in game #3 of the tournament.
