The Medaille College men’s basketball team added another notch to their belt as they are off to the best start in program history at (5-0) with a dominating non-conference road win over Cazenovia College (80-64). It was a game that was dominated on the inside with Medaille outscoring the Wildcats (54-34) in the paint and outrebounding the hosts (44-34). Another strong performance came from the duo of Keith Hack (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) (pictured) and Ron Malicki (Machias, NY/Pioneer) each of whom poured in a game high (21) points. Hack also pulled down a game high (14) boards to continue his stellar play thus far this season. Senior point guard Chris Moscato (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) dished out four assists making him the second player in program history to reach the (300) career assists mark. He is nine helpers shy of holding that career record. The Mavs had a tremendous field goal shooting day as they finished at (56%) from the floor while holding the Wildcats to just (34%). The Medaille College women’s basketball team fell behind by as many as eight points just six minutes into play but eventually ran away with a (68-53) victory in their AMCC opener over La Roche College. The visiting Redhawks came out firing as they were looking to run the floor against the Lady Mavs. Once Medaille settled in they were able to disrupt the La Roche shooters all night long. The Lady Mavs owned the paint as they outscored the Redhawks (28-14) in the painted area. A pair of new faces led the way in the scoring ledger for Medaille as both Susanne Black (Houghton, NY/Fillmore) and Meghan Dougherty (Buffalo, NY/Nichols) tallied (12) points. Junior Mameyaa Ankoma-Mensa (Brampton, Ont./D’youville)(pictured) provided a huge spark off the bench as she pulled down a game high (13) boards and was a defensive stalwart throughout. The Lady Mavs also outscored La Roche (23-11) from the charity stripe en route to the victory. The Lady Mavs improve to (3-1) overall and begin conference play at (1-0). Next up for Medaille is a conference tilt against AMCC rival Penn State-Behrend on Monday (11/30) at 6:00pm.

Senior Tiffany Sullivan (Penfield, NY/Nazareth Academy) (pictured) scored a team high (13) points off the bench, and the Lady Mavs rebounded from a tough first half; but, it was not enough as Medaille (2-1) would drop it’s first game of the season to Endicott (51-45) in the championship game of the Endicott Tip-Off Classic in Beverly, Mass. The Lady Mavs trailed (32-17) at the half, going (7 for 30) (23.3%) from the field, which included shooting just (9.1%) from beyond the arc. However, the second half was a different story as they would outscore the Lady Gulls (28-19) shooting a much improved (37.5%) from the field after half and holding Endicott to just (26.9%) shooting; however the second half push proved to be too little, too late. Sophomore Meghan Dougherty (Buffalo, NY/Nichols) added (10) points as well as a team high (4) assists in (37) minutes in the (6) point loss for Medaille. The Lady Mavs are now (2-1) on the season as they will travel back home for their first AMCC conference game of the year against La Roche College Tuesday, November 24, tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm.

The Lady Mavs basketball team took the court against Fitchburg State for the first time in program history in the opening round of the Endicott College Tip-Off Classic in Boston, MA. Sophomore Meghan Dougherty (Buffalo, NY/Nichols)(pictured) would play a role in the only two leads the Lady Mavs would have all night. She assisted on the games opening bucket, a three pointer by Kacie Mills (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East) and then she would seal Fitchburg State’s fate as she finished a transition layup, was fouled, and converted the free throw to give Medaille a one point lead with (23) seconds remaining. The Falcons called a timeout with (12) seconds left but could not connect on several chances as the Lady Mavs hung on for a (53-52) victory. It was a game of runs that saw Fitchburg State lead throughout but a furious comeback by Medaille with (8:45) remaining and down by ten would prove to be the difference. Dougherty score ten points in a three minute span, including knocking down a pair of threes that would turn the tide. She finished with a team high (15) points on the night, while Mills added (9) points, while dishing out (4) assists and picking up (6) steals. Junior Amanda Sahhar (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) finished with (10) points and (8) boards. The win moves Medaille to (2-0) on the season and they will take to the hardwood again tomorrow (11/21) at 1:00pm as they will face host Endicott College in the final game of the Endicott College Tip-Off Classic.

The Medaille College men’s basketball team opened play in the AD PRO Sports Classic as they hosted NAIA school Paul Smith’s College. All seventeen players for Medaille would see significant minutes as they rolled past the overmatched Bobcats (87-38). The Mavs would never trail in this one as fourteen players would fine their way onto the scoring ledger. Leading the way were a pair of guards as senior Mike Berkun (Getzville, NY/Williamsville North) and junior Ricky Reed (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta)(pictured) each tallied (12) points. Berkun connected on (4 of 6) from the floor while Reed knocked down (6 of 8). The Mavs dominated the glass as well, outrebounding Paul Smith’s (62-27) with sophomore transfer David Shuey (Newfane, NY/Newfane) pulling down a game high (13) points, seven of which came off the offensive glass. Freshman Anthony Battaglia (Lancaster, NY/Depew) came off the bench and dropped in (10) points on (4 of 6) shooting, including knocking down both of his attempts from behind the arc. The Mavs pushed the pace the entire evening as they outscored the Bobcats (22-0) in transition and dominated in the paint, holding a (58-14) edge there. The win moves Medaille to (2-0) on the young season and they will host Wells College on Saturday (11/21) in game #3 of the tournament. The Medaille College men’s basketball team is coming off the best season in school history and they added another notch to their belt as they defeated Geneseo State for the first time in program history with a (83-77) victory in the Sullivan Center this evening. The Blue Knights handed the Mavs an eight point loss last season and Medaille avenged that defeat in this game. There were points in this game where it seemed the Mavs would run away with the victory as they stretched their lead to as many as (16) points with (15:14) remaining in the second half. However, Geneseo would keep clawing back as they narrowed the gap to as low as six points with just (1:14) remaining before Medaille put the game away. Leading the charge for Medaille was the AMCC Preseason Player of the Year, Keith Hack (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay)(pictured) who poured in a team high (19) points while connecting on half of his eight attempts from behind the arc. Senior Mike Berkun (Getzville, NY/Williamsville North) was (3 for 4) from the floor, including (3 for 3) from three point range and a perfect (4 for 4) from the free throw line en route to a (13) point, (2) rebound, (2) assist and (1) steal evening. Junior Ron Malicki (Machias, NY/Pioneer) was tremendous from the charity stripe as he connected on (11 of 12) free throws, finishing with (17) points. The Mavs are (1-0) on the season and they will host Paul Smith’s College on Thursday (11/19) at 7:00pm as part of the Ad Pro Sports Classic.
