Men’s Soccer Captures 5th Straight AMCC Crown

The Medaille College men’s soccer team headed to Pitt-Bradford needing a win or a tie to capture their unprecedented fifth straight undefeated AMCC Regular Season Crown. They got that and more as they hammered the host Panthers (9-0) in their regular season finale. The Mavs had ten players find their way to the scoresheet with seven different players tallying goals. Leading the way was senior Josh Meier (South Wales, NY/Holland)(pictured) who was playing in his record tying 84th career game. Fittingly he tallied two brilliant header goals and assisted on another Medaille goal. Also netting two and assisting on another was freshman George Tor (Lagos, Nigeria) one of his goals was a beautiful strike on a free kick that rendered the Panther goalkeeper helpless. Another senior played well as John Siefert (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) dished out a pair of helpers including the assist on the game winning first goal which Meier tallied. The Mavs pounded the Panther defense with (45) shots, (24) of them on goal while Pitt-Bradford could only muster five shots, three of which were on frame. The teams 14th shutout of the season was shared by Ryan Goettel (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) who stopped one shot and Nate Konitzer (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) who stopped a pair of shots. It is the eight straight game that the Mavs have blanked their opponent, a span that dates back to September 29th. The Mavs finish regular season play at (15-2-2) overall and conclude AMCC play at (9-0-1). They will receive a well deserved bye in the opening round of the AMCC Tournament and they will host the winner of the La Roche v. Frostburg match-up on Wednesday (11/4) at 7:00pm at All High Stadium.
