Volleyball Wins 3rd Straight AMCC Match
The rejuvenated 2009 Medaille College women’s volleyball team continued its strong play as they upended D’Youville College (3-1); (25-20, 24-26, 26-24, 25-16) in an AMCC road match. The Lady Mavs used a balanced attack to defeat their longtime rivals for the second time this season. Senior Michele Burgstahler (Wilson, NY/Wilson) had a strong match as she put down (12) kills while hitting at a (.290) clip, she also came up with (13) digs on defense. Junior Gina Traniello (Falconer, NY/Falconer)(pictured), who usually shares the setting duties, doled out (41) assists in addition to her (7) kills and (17) digs. A match high (16) kills were put away by freshman Janine Benkelman (Eden, NY/Eden), she also served up three aces on the night. The Lady Mavs are now (12-2) overall and (4-1) in AMCC play. They will head to Oswego State on Friday (10/9) to take part in their tournament where they will face the hosts in the opening round at 4:00pm.
