Just two years removed from a five win season, the 2009 version of the Medaille College women’s volleyball team is looking to turn some heads.  They are moving in the right direction as they improved to (5-0) on the year in capturing the D’Youville College Spartan Invitational. After dispensing of D’Youville and Hilbert on Friday the Lady Mavs set their sights on Saturday’s opponents.  They faced Morrisville State at 10:00am and came out victorious (3-1); (25-22, 22-25, 25-19, 25-22) with Tournament MVP Gina Traniello (Falconer, NY/Falconer) (pictured) posting a triple double with (14) kills, (22) assists, and (13) digs.  In the final match the Lady Mavs outlasted Keuka College (3-2); (25-19, 25-18, 23-25, 20-25, 15-10).  Despite taking the first two games rather easily Medaille dropped the next two and faced a deficit late in game five before Meghan Fahy (Kendall, NY/Kendall) reeled off five straight points to set the Lady Mavs on the path to victory.  Freshman Janine Benkelman (Eden, NY/Eden) was also named to the All Tournament team for her strong play.  The Lady Mavs will hit the home hardwood on Wednesday (9/9) as Buffalo State will head down Route 198 for a 7:00pm match.
