Mavs Headed to AMCC Championship
The Medaille Mavericks inched closer to their first ever AMCC Championship as they defeated the Frostburg State Bobcats (86-64) in the first AMCC Semifinal Friday evening. The Mavs improved to (20-6) overall on the season and set a new school record eclipsing the 20 win plateau for the first time ever. Another career mark on the day was set by senior Bill Gersitz (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) as his eight points earned him an even 1,000 in his Medaille career becoming only the 5th men’s basketball player to reach the distinguished mark. Yet another record was set as the Mavs received a personal best and team high of 16 points from junior Chris Moscato (North Buffalo, NY/Canisius)(pictured) who shot (6-9) from the field and (4 of 6) from beyond the arc, he also dished out six assists in the game. The Mavs started off the game slow with Frostburg jumping to an early (9-2) lead, however Medaille would take the lead back at the (9:37) mark of the first half on a layup from junior Keith Hack (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) who finished with 12 points and five boards in the game. After that, the Mavs would protect the lead as they would finish the first half ahead (38-26) and cruise in the second half to earn the berth in the Championship game. The Mavericks will take on the third seeded, Pitt-Bradford Panthers on Saturday afternoon (2/28) at 3:00pm.
