Lady Mavs Drop Third Straight in AMCC Play
The Medaille College women’s basketball team dropped another tough conference game as they fell at home to Penn State-Altoona (77-65). The Lady Mavs fell behind by ten points just five minutes into play as the Lions seemingly hit every shot. Then Medaille turned on the defensive pressure and rebounded the ball well during the latter portions of the first half. That effort earned them a (35-32) lead at the break. When the Lady Mavs took to the floor in the second half they found a very determined Lions team that came out of the break. Penn State-Altoona opened the second stanza on a (12-3) run and their lead would swell to as many as (15) enroute to the victory. The Lady Mavs only connected on (35.8%) of their field goal attempts while Altoona was hot from the floor all day, finishing at (57.9%) for the game. In the loss Medaille was led by senior, guard, Carissa Ferrucci (Hamburg, NY/Immaculata) (pictured), who finished with a team high (16) points to go along with (8) boards. Another great effort was seen by sophomore, guard, Mameyaa Ankoma-Mensa (Brampton, Ontario/D’youville), who scored (9) points and pulled down a game tying high (11) boards. The Lady Mavs are now (8-6) overall and (4-3) in AMCC play. They will host crosstown AMCC rival Hilbert College on Monday at 1:00pm
