After struggling to a (1-3) record on day one of the Kutztown Invitational the Lady Mavs rallied on day two to finish at (.500) for the tournament with a (5-5) record. In the Friday evening matches the Mavs fell to Norfolk State in the opening baker match (635-739), defeated New Jersey City University (706-595) in the second and then dropped the final two of the day to Fairleigh Dickinson (680-700) and Kutztown (678-731). On Saturday the teams played the traditional format and the Mavs seemed to thrive in that setting as they went (4-2) on the day. They opened up day two play with a (870-767) win over Howard University. Their second match of the day was a (885-676) win over North Carolina Central. The Lady Mavs would take down their next two opponents as they bested Norfolk (813-765) and Bowie (816-698). The Lady Mavs and their tired arms couldn’t take down Hampton in their final matchup as they fell (853-874). Leading the charge for Medaille was sophomore, Alyssa Neglia (Lockport, NY/Lockport)(pictured), who finished the weekend in 24th place, in a field of almost 200 bowlers. After winning five straight games the Medaille College men’s basketball team headed to Frostburg State full of confidence. The Bobcats would prove to be poor hosts as they halted the win streak with a (84-71) victory over the Mavs. The Mavs dug themselves a hole in the first half as they trailed (42-30) at the break. The second half would be a much tighter contest. The Mavs found themselves behind by as many as (19) points in the early stages of the second half. They would claw their way back, and with (6:45) remaining in regulation, the Mavs trimmed the lead to (70-62). That would be as close as they would get as they were unable to connect on many shots down the stretch. In the loss the Mavs received a strong performance off the bench from sophomore, Ron Malicki (Machias, NY/Pioneer)(pictured), who was (6 of 7) from the floor, finishing with (14) points and (7) boards. Junior, guard, Keith Hack (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) led the Mavs with (18) points, as he connected on (7 of 8) attempts from the charity stripe. The loss drops the Mavs to (13-6) overall and they are now (8-4) in AMCC play. Next up for Medaille is a trip to La Roche College on Wednesday (2/4) for a 7:30pm conference tilt.

As Mother Nature wreaked havoc outside, the Medaille College men’s basketball team did the same inside the Sullivan Center, as they avenged an earlier overtime loss with a (71-60) win over Pitt-Bradford. The Mavs led for all but (2:23) in this one, going up by as many as (13) points on several occassions. However, the Panthers would not go away quietly as they pulled to within four points (54-50) with (10:33) remaining in regulation. The Mavs would score seven straight points after that and squash any hopes that the Panthers had of a comeback. In the crucial conference victory the Mavs received quality performances from several players. Leading the way was junior, guard, Keith Hack (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) who finished with a game high (16) points to go along with (6) boards. A pair of sophomores shined for the Mavs as Ron Malicki (Machias, NY/Pioneer) (pictured) and Ricky Reed (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) each dropped in (14) points, with Malicki tying a career high with (7) rebounds. The win moves Medaille to (13-5) overall and they remain atop the AMCC standings at (8-3). The Mavs will head to Frostburg State University on Saturday (1/31) for a 3:00pm conference tilt.
