Men Open AMCC Play With OT Loss
After four wins in their first four games the Medaille men dropped a heartbreaker in their AMCC opener as they fell (80-76) in overtime at Pitt-Bradford. The Mavs jumped out to a quick (10-2) lead less than three minutes into play and they would maintain an edge throughout the first half of play, taking a four point lead into the locker room at the half. Their lead would hold up until the (15:16) mark of the second half as Pitt-Bradford went up (41-40) on a pair of free throws. The Panthers would hang on to their lead until the (6:27) mark when sophomore, Ricky Reed (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) converted on a layup to give the Mavs a (58-57) lead, he finished with (16) points. The home team would regain the edge shortly thereafter, going up by as many as seven points with less than three minutes remaining. The Mavs would storm back and they tied the game with (10) seconds remaining on a pair of free throws by Reed. The overtime period would see the lead change hands four times before the Panthers took control enroute to the win. The Mavs received a stellar performance from junior, Keith Hack (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay)(pictured) who finished with a game high (25) points to go along with (7) boards. Senior, Bill Gersitz (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) also had a big night, finishing with (11) points and a game high (12) rebounds. The loss drops Medaille to (4-1) overall and they begin AMCC play at (0-1). Next up for Medaille is another conference road trip at Mount Aloysius on Saturday (12/6) with a 3:00pm start time.
