Boughton Leads NCAA D-3 in Soccer Assists
In his first two years of intercollegiate soccer Gary Boughton (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) a junior, midfielder, on the men’s soccer team finished second in the nation in assists.
He had 21 assists in his first season, and fell short to only his teammate, senior Ryan Mangano, who had 24 on the year. In his sophomore campaign, Boughton finished the season with 19 assists and yet again finished second in the nation, this time to Chris Kunzig of St. Joseph’s.
The 2008 season would see him end that trend as he finished as the top assist man in the nation with 20. He now has 60 career assists as he heads into his senior season in 2009. His career total already ranks him third all-time in NCAA Division III soccer and he only needs three assists to become the number one assist man ever at this level.
