Boughton Leads NCAA D-3 in Soccer Assists

December 15, 2008 By: admin Category: Fall Sports, Men's Soccer No Comments →

Boughton_LaRoche#1In his first two years of intercollegiate soccer Gary Boughton (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) a junior, midfielder, on the men’s soccer team finished second in the nation in assists.

He had 21 assists in his first season, and fell short to only his teammate, senior Ryan Mangano, who had 24 on the year. In his sophomore campaign, Boughton finished the season with 19 assists and yet again finished second in the nation, this time to Chris Kunzig of St. Joseph’s.

The 2008 season would see him end that trend as he finished as the top assist man in the nation with 20. He now has 60 career assists as he heads into his senior season in 2009. His career total already ranks him third all-time in NCAA Division III soccer and he only needs three assists to become the number one assist man ever at this level.

Men’s Basketball Topples Mt. Aloysius

December 06, 2008 By: Mike Carbery Category: Men's Basketball, Winter Sports No Comments →

IMG_4930The Medaille College men’s basketball team received huge contributions off their bench to outlast AMCC foe, Mt. Aloysius College (85-74) in their second straight conference road game.  The Mavs got (62) points from their reserves in a game that saw the score tied eleven times with the same number of lead changes, Mt. Aloysius received (17) points off the bench.  It is the first AMCC win this season for the Mavs as they are now (1-1) in conference play.  The Mavs found themselves down (69-66) with (5:52) remaining in the second half when junior, Keith Hack (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) buried a three pointer to pull the Mavs even at (69-69).  Hack finished the game tied with a team high (16) points.  The Mavs would take the lead for good on a layup by Ricky Reed (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) with (4:34) to play.  From that point on Medaille used clutch shooting from the charity stripe to extend their lead and secure the victory.  In the final (56) seconds of the game the Mavs connected on (10 of 12) from the free throw line.  The biggest contributor off the bench for Medaille was sophomore, Ron Malicki (Machias, NY/Pioneer)(pictured), who finished with (16) points on (6 of 9) shooting from the floor, while pulling down (7) boards, five of which were on the offensive glass.  The win moves the Mavs to (5-1) on the year and they will host Fredonia State on Thursday (12/11) for a 7:00pm tipoff.
