Volleyball Outlasts Hilbert on Senior Night

October 29, 2008 By: Mike Carbery Category: Fall Sports, Women's Volleyball No Comments →

Burgstahler_0927cThe Medaille College women’s volleyball team dropped the opening game to Hilbert on senior night in the Sullivan Center, but the Lady Mavs would bounce back and hang on for a (3-2); (19-25, 25-19, 25-15, 20-25, 15-10) victory.  The Lady Mavs received a huge night from junior, Michele Burgstahler (Wilson, NY/Wilson)(pictured) who pounded out a match high (24) kills.  She was assisted on the majority of those by senior, teammate, Melissa Carter (Lancaster, NY/St. Mary’s) who finished the evening with (40) helpers.  She moved into second place on the all time assist chart as she now has (1,066) for her career.  It was fitting that the final point would come off the hands of senior, Heather Belmont (Ontario, NY/Nazareth Academy) who put down the final ball.  The win is the first in AMCC play for Medaille as they are now (1-7) in conference play and (8-19) overall.  The Lady Mavs will close out the 2008 campaign at Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday (11/1) at 1:00pm.

Men’s Soccer Claims 4th Straight AMCC Crown

October 28, 2008 By: Mike Carbery Category: Fall Sports, Men's Soccer No Comments →

Meier_Josh0930aThe Medaille College men’s soccer team went into today’s match against Penn State-Behrend having not given up a single goal in conference play this season.  The Mavs needed a win or tie to clinch their fourth straight AMCC regular season title.  The bad news was, the Mavs allowed Behrend a goal.  The good news, the Mavs also tallied a score and the teams found themselves deadlocked (1-1) after two overtime periods.  The tie assured the Mavs of the #1 seed in the upcoming AMCC tournament and it gave them a record fourth straight title.  All four titles have come without a regular season conference loss.  The game was played in very soggy conditions and the host Lions would notch the games first goal as they scored at the (36:07) mark of the first half.  Behrend would take a (1-0) lead into halftime.  The Mavs would strike about midway through the second half as junior, Josh Meier (South Wales, NY/Holland)(pictured) connected off a feed from Gary Boughton (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) to even the score.  The two teams would play to a stalemate the rest of the way.  The tie is the first of the year for Medaille as they are now (12-5-1) overall and they close out conference play at (8-0-1).  The Mavs will receive a first round bye and will host a semifinal game on Wednesday (11/5) against an opponent that is yet to be determined.

Lady Mavs Post Monumental Win Over Behrend

October 28, 2008 By: Mike Carbery Category: Fall Sports, Women's Soccer No Comments →

freemanFor the first time ever the Medaille College women’s soccer team beat Penn State-Behrend and they did so on Behrend turf.  The Lady Mavs came out of Erie, PA with a (3-2) win and the assurance of hosting an AMCC quarterfinal game.  The Lady Mavs took control early on as they netted the games first two goals, as juniors, Laura Freeman (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore West)(pictured) and Danielle Radlich (Clarence, NY/Clarence) opened up the scoring.  The Lions would tally a score prior to the intermission to cut the Medaille lead in half as the teams headed into the locker room at (2-1).  Freeman would tally her second goal, the game winner, early in the second half on an assist from Radlich.  Radlich assisted on both of Freeman’s scores and sophomore Katie Bush (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown) would provide the helper on the Radlich goal.  The Lady Mavs improve to (11-8-0) overall and they finish AMCC play at (7-2-0).  The win gives Medaille a home playoff game on Saturday (11/1) at 6:00pm against an opponent that is yet to be determined.

Mavs Rout Pitt-Greensburg 7-0 in Regular Season Home Finale

October 25, 2008 By: jwalrath Category: Fall Sports, Men's Soccer No Comments →

Rouse_alexanderIn a game to honor the seniors, it was a freshman who stole the show. The Men’s soccer team ended regular season play at home with a (7-0) victory. Freshman striker Alexander Rouse (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus)(pictured) scored five goals for the Mavericks and now has (19) on the season stealing the spot light away from the seniors in the victory over the visiting Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats. This year’s senior class included Chris Griffiths (Elma, NY/Iroquois), Josh Waclawski (Brocton, NY/Brocton), Eric Schmitz (North Collins, NY/North Collins), Jared Reisdorf (Strykersville, NY/Holland), and Jacob Reisdorf (Strykersville, NY/Holland). Two seniors made the score sheet with Griffiths adding a goal and Schmitz an assist in the total team effort. Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Goettel (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) needed to make only one save in registering his ninth shutout of the season. Medaille now moves to (12-5-0) overall and (8-0-0) in AMCC play heading into the final game of the regular season Tuesday at Penn-State Behrend.

October 23, 2008 By: Mike Carbery Category: Fall Sports, Women's Volleyball No Comments →

Burgstahler_0927bThe Medaille College women’s volleyball team dropped their fifth straight match as they were outlasted by Cazenovia College (3-2); (18-25, 25-8, 25-19, 23-25, 16-14).  The Lady Mavs were looking to sweep the series against the Wildcats in the 2008 season.  However, Cazenovia would have different plans as they took games two and three easily.  The Lady Mavs would bounce back to win game four before succumbing to the Wildcats in the fifth and final set.  The loss drops Medaille to (7-18) overall. The Lady Mavs will head to La Roche College on Saturday (10/25) to take on their AMCC rival at 1:00pm.
